Aaron Gershowitz

Director, Refugee and Immigrant Services

Aaron Gershowitz is Director of Refugee & Immigrant Services at HIAS. In this position, Mr. Gershowitz is responsible for the overall direction and management of HIAS’ domestic refugee resettlement and immigration services programs. Prior to assuming this position, Mr. Gershowitz was an Immigration Specialist, representing individuals at U.S. Immigration Courts in the New York metropolitan area, including at local detention centers. His first position at HIAS was in the former Pre-Migration Department, meeting with the relatives of refugees to finalize their reception arrangements prior to arrival. He has been with HIAS for over 18 years, since the early days of the last great wave of Soviet Jewish migration.

Mr. Gershowitz has a Master’s Degree in International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, where he specialized in Soviet Studies. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations and Russian Language from the University of Pennsylvania.
