Eric Newman
Director, International Operations
Eric Newman has worked in refugee resettlement and protection in both domestic and international programs for more than 20 years.
Prior to joining the HIAS International Operations Department in 2001, Mr. Newman was Supervisor of Community Outreach at HIAS, directing the national HIAS citizenship program. In this role and with the indispensable assistance of HIAS colleagues, Mr. Newman authored the popular "HIAS Guide to United States Citizenship."
As Director of International Operations, Mr. Newman has responsibility for oversight of HIAS’ international offices and programs in Argentina, Austria, Chad, Ecuador, Israel, Kenya, Russia, Ukraine, and Venezuela. In his current position Mr. Newman also manages HIAS’ partnerships with the U.S. Department of State, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, private donors, and other supporters of HIAS’ work.
Mr. Newman received a BA from Colgate University, a Masters Degree in Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School, and has pursued further study at Columbia University and Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He lives in New Jersey with his wife Maria and their three sons.
