Gideon Aronoff
President & CEO
Gideon Aronoff is the elected President and CEO of HIAS, the international migration agency of the American Jewish community. Prior to this role, Mr. Aronoff served as Vice President for Government Relations and Public Policy/Director of the HIAS Washington office (2004-2006) and Washington Representative/Director of the HIAS Washington office (2000-2003). Before joining HIAS, he worked for nearly a dozen years in Boston and Washington, DC in the Soviet Jewry movement as a leader in advocating for immigrant rights and refugee protection policies.
For more than two decades, Mr. Aronoff has worked in the Jewish community on community relations, public policy, human rights advocacy, and media relations. He has been an integral force in Washington, DC advocating to Congress and the Administration for greater protection of refugees worldwide, increased opportunities for resettlement in the U.S., and compassionate and effective immigration and integration policies. He has focused much of his career on coalition-building in the Jewish community, and with key interfaith, interethnic and other community partners.
Mr. Aronoff is the immediate past chair of the National Immigration Forum, the leading immigrant advocacy organization in the United States. Aronoff is also active in the leadership of the Refugee Council USA, the principal U.S. coalition of non-governmental organizations focused on refugee protection, resettlement, asylum seekers, displaced persons, victims of trafficking, and victims of torture in the United States and around the world. He is a member of the steering committee of Limmud FSU, a gathering of Jewish learning which brings together and empowers Jewish young adults who are reviving and revitalizing the Jewish community and culture in the countries of the former Soviet Union. In his home community, he serves as a member of the Community Relations Committee of the United Jewish Communities of MetroWest, NJ.
Raised in East Lansing, Michigan, Aronoff earned his J.D. degree from Cornell Law School and a B.A. in history from Brandeis University. He is the proud father of Dalia and Solomon.
