HIAS-Mapendo Chad, Coordinator
HIAS, Inc., the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, one of the oldest immigration and refugee assistance organizations, is recruiting a Coordinator to work in its Chad Country Office, primarily on protection activities. Education and skills
• University degree
• Proven analytical ability
• Excellent computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• Strong organizational and work planning skills
• Languages: excellent command of spoken and written English; working knowledge of French; knowledge of Arabic an asset
Experience
• Minimum 2 years practical experience working with refugees or asylum seekers
• Knowledge and understanding of the refugee resettlement process and, more specifically, the UNHCR resettlement criteria
• Work experience in a challenging international environment
• Experience in interviewing and case assessment skills
• Experience in consultations and liaising with the UNHCR and non-governmental organizations an added advantage
Duties & Responsibilities
• Assist in developing and enhancing policy and guidelines for resettlement practices
• Interview and assess resettlement cases
• Ensure transparency and efficiency in file submissions
• Ensure that standard operating procedures for resettlement are adhered to
• Maintain regular contacts with all relevant parties in the field
• Participate in training activities for HIAS-Mapendo staff and partners
• Compile and submit updated and correct monthly resettlement reports and statistics to the Program Manager
• Provide briefings and perform other tasks that may be required
Competencies/Abilities
• Ability to facilitate the resettlement process in the field
• Interest in the protection of refugees and persons of concern to HIAS-Mapendo
• Ability to prioritize activities
• Ability to work in a systematic, creative, and collaborative way with colleagues and partners
• Knowledge of human rights issues, especially in the African context, a plus
• Ability to commit to and uphold principles of non-discrimination and confidentiality in all aspects of work
• Ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for all persons regardless of origin, status, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, or other individual characteristics
