Los Angeles Young Leaders Coordinator

HIAS, Inc., the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, the oldest international refugee serving agency in the U.S., seeks a part-time Los Angeles Young Leaders Coordinator (HYL LA Coordinator) to oversee and grow a HIAS Young Leaders (HYL) chapter in Los Angeles.

The HYL LA Coordinator will mobilize a community of young Jewish adults to be lifelong HIAS supporters and activists/ambassadors on immigration issues. The Coordinator will do this by developing and growing a network of volunteer leaders and facilitating their planning and implementation of all aspects of the HYL LA chapter. Volunteer leadership opportunities will be offered through a menu of educational programming, advocacy actions, community service initiatives, and fundraising projects/events. The Coordinator will also work with the other HYL chapters/constituents around the country to create national HYL programming, as well as establish strategic relationships with other young leadership and HIAS related programs/ organizations in Los Angeles and beyond.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently while under supervision; proven success establishing volunteer groups from the ground up with a minimum of two years volunteer management experience, preferably in a young leadership setting; ability to collaborate with local and national partners; computer proficiency including social media applications; excellent communications, organizational and interpersonal skills; a high level of cultural sensitivity; ability to troubleshoot computers and other office equipment; ability to attend evening and weekend meetings/events and a bachelor’s degree in a related field a plus.
