New York Program Associate – Immigration Services & Refugee Resettlement

This full-time Program Associate position in HIAS' New York headquarters is unique in that it will work in the areas of Immigration Services (60%) and Refugee Resettlement (40%). The successful candidate will develop, implement, and monitor program activities to foster the integration of refugees and immigrants into U.S. society and to promote their becoming U.S. citizens.

The Program Associate will work closely with HIAS’ local affiliates (some travel required), to implement Federally-funded grant programs. One of the major focuses will be the development and implementation of citizenship education curricula tailored to immigrants of varying educational levels and diverse cultural backgrounds. Another focus will be to develop procedures and protocols to assist local resettlement partners to implement services to refugee single women households and a cultural orientation curriculum to acclimate new refugee arrivals.

A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (with Master’s Degree preferred) in education, social work or sociology, particularly relating to work with foreign cultures is required. Previous employment and/or training in the teaching of civics education to non-English speaking adults, ESL, or other foreign languages strongly desired. Other work with refugees or immigrants will be considered. Previous experience working on Federally-funded programs also helpful.
