René Lerer is chairman and chief executive officer of Magellan Health Services, a nearly $3 billion specialty health care management organization with four lines of business: behavioral health, diagnostic imaging, specialty pharmaceuticals, and public sector pharmacy administration. Dr. Lerer has more than 22 years of health care experience and has served as president and chief operating officer for Magellan; as co-founder and president of Internet HealthCare Group, a health care technology venture fund; as chief operating officer of Prudential Healthcare; and as president of The Travelers Health Network. He also served as senior vice president of operations, pharmacy, and disease management with Value Health, Inc., a New York Stock Exchange-listed specialty managed care organization.
An active member of the community, Dr. Lerer served as the corporate walk chair for the Juvenile Diabetes Research foundation (North Central Connecticut and West Massachusetts Chapter) in 2008, and has been a member of the board of directors for Digital Insurance, a publicly traded national employee benefits broker in the small business market, since 2000.
Dr. Lerer holds a bachelor's degree in Psychobiology from Oberlin College, a doctor of medicine degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and is board-certified in internal medicine. Dr. Lerer resides in Avon, CT with his wife Michele and two college-aged sons, Ben and Sam.
