Schmolka, Marie
The tireless social worker who saved many of Czechoslovakia's Jews during WWII
A heroic HIAS worker in Czechoslovakia before and during World War II, Schmolka worked tirelessly to help Jewish refugees escape the country and Nazi terror. She sacrificed many opportunities to leave herself, passing precious visas on to others. She was arrested by the Gestapo in 1939, and died in 1940.
