Vice President, Community Engagement, Family History and Archives

HIAS, the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, the oldest international humanitarian organization assisting Jewish and other refugees and immigrants in rescue, resettlement, and reunification, has an exceptional opportunity for a creative, visionary entrepreneurial leader to play a central role in creating a comprehensive vision for a recently established division.

Reporting to the President & CEO and a member of the HIAS senior management team, the Vice President, Community Engagement, Family History and Archives will combine existing program activities with innovative new programs created to preserve HIAS’ historical documents and photographs and connect Jews to HIAS, their own family and communal migration history, and efforts to assist today’s refugees and immigrants. In addition, the Vice President will be responsible for building and growing a staff; establishing enduring relationships both internally and externally; and overseeing strategy, research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship to support HIAS’ archival, educational, and community engagement activities.

The successful candidate will have a graduate degree (MPA, MBA, or Masters in Judaic studies or Jewish Communal Service strongly desired) and a minimum of 7 to 10 years management experience. Also necessary is experience creating and implementing engagement programs within a Jewish context and building constituencies through public speaking, fundraising, and/or advocacy work. Rabbinical training and/or a professional background in Jewish education, Jewish studies, and/or Jewish communal service is preferred. Knowledge of issues related to immigration and refugee protection as well as an understanding of archive preservation and historical research are also necessary.
