Russian emigre ends long path to freedom

The New Jersey Jewish News recently told the story of Raisa Sirota who, at 83, immigrated to the United States from St. Petersburg, Russia. Sirota endured a three-year battle with immigration authorities before HIAS' Moscow director Leonard Terlitsky was able to coordinate the appeal that ultimately allowed her to join her daughter and son-in-law in West Orange, New Jersey.
