Asylum Seekers in Israel Protest the Government

Over the weekend, thousands of African asylum seekers in Israel gathered to urge the Israeli government to hear their asylum requests, allow them to work legally, and stop detaining them. Many African asylum-seekers also went on strike, which had a particular impact on the hotel industry. In Tel Aviv, nearly 20,000 people attended the demonstration in Rabin Square, and several local restaurants and bars stood in solidarity with strikers by closing either partially or entirely.
