House Judiciary Committee Holds Immigration Hearing

On February 5th, the House Judiciary Committee held a hearing titled "America's Immigration System: Opportunities for Legal Immigration and Enforcement of Laws against Illegal Immigration." Witnesses included San Antonio's Mayor Julian Castro; Dr. Puneet Arora of Immigration Voice; Chris Crane of the American Federation of Government Employees; Muzaffar Chishti of the Migration Policy Institute; and Michael Teitelbaum, who currently is at Harvard Law School but sat on the U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform from 1991-1997. In his testimony, Mr. Teitelbaum summarized the Commission's key findings and recommendations, which included prioritizing "refugee admissions and other actions that reaffirm longstanding U.S. commitments to provide refuge to the persecuted."
