Earlier this month, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced that it will temporarily extend all 287(g) agreements through the end of the year, in order to provide the agency with time to consider the program's future. The agreements, made between ICE and 57 state and local law enforcement agencies, deputize local officials to assist ICE in enforcing Federal immigration law. The program has come under fire because of accusations of racial profiling as well as inefficient allocation of resources, especially in light of the near nation-wide implementation of the Secure Communities program. Hi Jon,Thank you for your comment and for tinakg the time to outline your challenging situation. Unfortunately as there is no requirement that HIAís be conducted within EIAíS, there is no way that you can ensure that one is carried out. I would advise that you create an open stream of communication between yourself, other residents and the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities. If you havenít done so already you should peruse the Knowledge Centre, with particular reference to steps 5, 6, 7 and 8. This will give you guidance on how to formulate a letter of complaint and how to engage your community. I wish you the very best of luck!Kind Regards,Samantha Stitt
