On Monday, the State Department released its 2012 International Religious Freedom Report. The report "highlights stories of courage and conviction, but also recounts violence, restriction, and abuse, reminding us that while many nations uphold respect and protect religious freedom, many do not." The report again names Iran as a "Country of Particular Concern" for religious freedom violations, noting that "government rhetoric and actions created a threatening atmosphere for nearly all members of non-Shi'a religious groups, most notably for Baha'is, as well as for Sunni Muslims including Sufis, evangelical Christians, Jews, and Shi'a groups that did not share the government's religious views." The report found that the arrest and harassment of members of religious minorities in Iran increased significantly during the year. Read the report.
