On April 17, a bipartisan group of 8 Senators introduced The Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013. The bill would provide a path to citizenship for the majority of the 11 million undocumented immigrants currently in the U.S. The bill also includes several important asylum and refugee provisions, including the elimination of the one-year filing deadline for asylum seekers, eliminating family reunification barriers for asylees and refugees, and authorizing streamlined processing of certain high risk refugee groups. The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to hold hearings on the legislation on Friday, April 19 and on Monday, April 22 at 10:00 a.m. Watch the live webcasts.
