HIAS Celebrates Hannukah in Washington

Tonight is the last night of Hannukah—the Jewish festival of lights—and HIAS is celebrating with several events in Washington, DC. This afternoon, HIAS staff and Board Members attended a special Hannukah candlelighting event at the White House with Cecilia Muñoz, Assistant to the President and Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council. Along with seven other Jewish organizations who are working hard to reform our country’s broken immigration system, HIAS officials were invited to light a candle for immigration reform on the historic “Statue of Liberty Centennial Menorah,” which was on loan from the Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia. Later in the day, we will join our partners from the Jewish Social Justice Roundtable and We Were Strangers, Too: Jewish Campaign for Immigration Reform for a Hannukah celebration and immigrant solidarity event in the Fast for Families tent on the National Mall. Learn more about tonight’s event and help spread the word!
