The Worsening Plight of Religious Minorities in Iran

The Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission held a hearing entitled "The Worsening Plight of Religious Minorities in Iran" on Friday, March 15. Naghmeh Abedini, the wife of imprisoned Iranian-American pastor Saeed Abedini, and Dr. Katrina Lantos-Swett, Chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, were among the witnesses. The hearing addressed the continuing deterioration of religious freedom in Iran and highlighted the plight of Baha'is and Christians. Among her recommendations regarding the situation, Dr. Lantos Swett encouraged Congress to reauthorize the Lautenberg Amendment for multiple years to eliminate disruptions in the program. Learn more.
