'Let My People Stay'—Asylum Seekers in Israel

This Washington Jewish Week article examines Israel's attitude toward the 53,600 asylum seekers who have fled persecution and violence to seek protection within its borders. As Mark Hetfield explains, with the flow of asylum seekers all but halted, now is the time for Israel to reevaluate its policies aimed at creating a purposefully unwelcome atmosphere, such as the Knesset's recent amendment allowing asylum seekers to be detained without a trial for up to a year.
