(New York, NY) – The board and staff of HIAS, the global migration agency of the American Jewish community, are deeply saddened by the murders of four members of the Toulouse (France) Jewish community. According to press reports, this is one in a chain of murders that have taken place in the Toulouse area since last week, including the killing of three troops who had recently returned from Afghanistan. In this dark hour, we stand behind the families of those lost and the government and people of France and hope that the perpetrators are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.
In its 130 years of service to the Jewish people, HIAS has had a proud history in France, especially during and after World War II. Today, as in the past, HIAS stands ready to help Jewish and other migrants in need of rescue and resettlement.
