HIAS Young Leaders Annual Advocacy Mission
Each year Young Leaders from New York, Los Angeles and Washington
convene in DC to advocate on behalf of immigrants and refugees.
Together, the Young Leaders learn about faith-based advocacy and then
test those skills at lobbying visits at the White House and in the US
Congress.
"My fellow Young Leaders were not only passionate, but
well-informed. They not only spoke from their hearts, but made
intelligent and lucid arguments. After the meetings, I felt like I'd
been a part of something very important...I know now that my voice
counts, but only if I'm willing to use it."

2008: Mission Accomplished
On January this year, Young Leaders from Los Angeles, Washington DC and
New York gathered to take part in our annual advocacy mission.
Beginning with a Friday dinner at NY HIAS headquarters and ending with
an educated and enlightening lobbying visit to their Senators and
Representatives in Washington DC, Young Leaders discussed SSI benefits
for elderly and disabled refugees, the Dream Act, and US action on the
Iraqi refugee crisis.
The mission was a wonderful experience for all that provided a unique
chance to be part of the democratic process and advocate on behalf of
vulnerable migrants.
Contact your chapter coordinator to find out how you can get involved in local and national advocacy initiatives and participate in the next HYL
Advocacy Mission.
