Associate Vice President, Global Programs Operations
Aaron Gershowitz is HIAS' Senior Director, U.S. Programs. He is responsible for the overall direction and management of HIAS’ domestic refugee resettlement and immigration services programs. Aaron previously was HIAS' Director, Refugee & Immigrant Services and, prior to that, he served as an immigration specialist representing individuals at U.S. Immigration Courts in the New York metropolitan area, including at local detention centers.
Aaron's first position at HIAS was in the former Pre-Migration Department, meeting with the relatives of refugees to finalize their reception arrangements prior to arrival. He has been with HIAS for over 18 years, since the early days of the last great wave of Soviet Jewish migration.
Aaron has a master’s degree in International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, where he specialized in Soviet Studies. He has a bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Russian Language from the University of Pennsylvania.
