Vice President, External Affairs
Riva Silverman is the vice president of external affairs at HIAS, where she builds awareness of and support for the organization’s work with refugees around the world and here in the United States.
She has more than 25 years of experience in the nonprofit and philanthropy sectors, promoting civil and human rights, religious freedom, and empowerment for marginalized communities largely through Jewish social justice organizations. Riva has held senior positions at American Jewish World Service, the Masorti Foundation and the New Israel Fund. Earlier in her career, she was program director at the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Human Rights.
Riva has a B.A. in political science from Columbia University, a B.A. in Talmud from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America and an M.A. in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
She is married with three children and lives in Norwalk, CT.
