Request a Location Search

How Can We Assist You?
If you are looking for someone with whom you have lost contact (or wish to establish contact), HIAS can conduct a search in the U.S. as well as abroad. We will need some basic information about the person you are seeking, such as first and last name, birthdate and birthplace, country of immigration, and when contact last occurred.

Please note: Although HIAS has been in existence since 1881, we have access to HIAS documents from 1909 through today only. If you need information about someone who arrived to the United States with the help of HIAS prior to 1909, we will likely not have related documents.

We cannot guarantee that all of our searches will be successful. Searches may take from several months to more than a year.

How Do We Locate People?
We use appropriate sources of information, depending on the case. We work in cooperation with many organizations, including our U.S. affiliates and HIAS offices abroad, Jewish agencies worldwide, and the International Tracing Service.

Once we have located the person sought, we request permission to release his/her address to the inquirer. If the person sought is interested in being contacted, we convey this information to the inquirer. Likewise, we do not reveal the whereabouts of the person sought if he/she does not with to be contacted.
