Refugee Law 101: Introduction to Refugees and Refugee Processing

United States

Event Description

Over the past several months, we have been witnessing an unprecedented refugee crisis. From Afghanistan, to Ukraine, to Myanmar, and Syria, millions of people have been displaced from their homes. The term "refugee" often gets used interchangeably with "forcibly displaced," but what does it actually mean to be a refugee?  How does international law impact our understanding of who is a refugee, how are refugees processed, and what does a refugee experience prior to their entry into the U.S.?

Join HIAS' Pro Bono & Partnerships team and special guest Jessica Therkelsen, HIAS' Director for Legal Protection, for a closer examination of how refugee law works on a global scale. This training will be offered free of charge. You must be registered to receive the webinar information.  A recorded version of this training will be available at a later date. Many thanks to Loeb & Loeb LLP and Morgan Stanley for their generous sponsorship of this webinar. CLE credit may be available for live participants in certain jurisdictions.
