About the Film

When a friend sent director Ronit Kertsner a viral YouTube video of an Austrian driver smuggling refugees over the border and singing songs with them in Yiddish, she knew there was a story to be told. Hans Breuer, the driver, is the protagonist of the film Refugee Lullaby. He spends his free time helping refugees any way he can, while singing to them Yiddish lullabies to comfort them.

About the Festival

The Jewish Film Institute's mission is to inspire communities in San Francisco and around the world to expand their understanding of Jewish life through film, media, and dialogue. Through a range of programs and initiatives, JFI celebrates the full spectrum of Jewish identities; nurtures and builds connections within and beyond the Jewish community; provides multiple platforms for open dialogue; promotes an evolving definition of what constitutes Jewish film and media; introduces new voices and emerging talent; seeks excellence, originality and innovation; champions freedom of expression; reveals diverse points of view; and honors depth and complexity over formula.

This is the first of two screenings of Refugee Lullaby. Click here for details on the second showing.
