Welcome in Action: Jewish Community Support for Ukrainian Newcomers
On April 21, 2022, the Biden administration announced the “Uniting for Ukraine” program, which creates a special pathway for Ukrainians to enter the United States with humanitarian parole status, for a period of two years. Through this program, private citizens can apply to serve as financial sponsors for Ukrainians who wish to come to the U.S. Additionally, Ukrainian nationals who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border and were granted humanitarian parole for one year, as well as those trapped in the U.S. when the crisis erupted and applied or are still applying for Temporary Protected Status (TPS), are in need of support.
Join us to learn more about the different avenues for support that HIAS is designing, in partnership with other national Jewish and refugee agencies. We will share details about HIAS Welcome Circles for Ukrainians, the ways that Jewish Federations, JCRCs, and social service agencies are engaging with Ukrainians, and how individuals, synagogues, and other Jewish communal groups can play key roles.
