HIAS Letter Writing Program
Click here to fill out an application/account and RSVP for the program.
Join HIAS for a monthly program during which volunteers can write letters of compassion and solidarity to asylum seekers in immigration detention.
HIAS volunteers are paired with asylum seekers who have requested compassionate correspondence with others. At each monthly program, volunteers will both handwrite letters and participate in a short learning session that reflects on refugee and asylum issues through a Jewish lens. All letters will be sent from and received at HIAS – volunteers will not be asked to provide personal addresses.
The program will take place at a convenient location in Washington DC. Registered participants will be notified of the exact location three days before the program. Participants must be 18 or older.
Note: We are unable to accommodate participants in this program from outside the Greater Washington, DC area. This program is for individual participants and not groups – for information on limited group volunteering experiences with HIAS, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
