Uncertain Times, Certain Fear: Anti-Semitism and Anti-Immigrant Sentiment in the COVID-19 Era

3:00pm EDT
United States

Event Description

Throughout history, times of fear and great anxiety have led to an increase in xenophobia including anti-Semitism, and anti-immigrant and anti-refugee sentiment as well. Sadly, the current global health pandemic has been no exception.

Join ADL’s Center on Extremism Senior Research Fellow Marilyn Mayo and HIAS’ Senior Vice President for Public Affairs Melanie Nezer for a dynamic conversation about the historic and contemporary intersections of anti-Semitism and anti-immigrant rhetoric. We will learn about the historic experience of Jews as targets of anti-immigrant hatred, the ways in which Jews have been blamed for the latest waves of immigration to this country, and how the current pandemic is impacting refugees and asylum seekers in particular.
