Welcoming the Stranger: On Refugees in Virginia

Event Description

Join HIAS and our partners for a special look at refugee resettlement and asylum in Virginia. As Jews, we know what it means to be a stranger in a strange land. The ongoing pandemic forces us to ask what it means to be a stranger in a strange land at a very strange and troubling time. Join HIAS and our partners from Church World Service, the International Rescue Committee, and Just Neighbors for a briefing on the refugee crisis and to explore how you or your synagogue can take action locally for refugees and asylum seekers. You'll hear local perspectives from Rodrigue Makelele, Virginia Refugee Organizer at Church World Service; Harriet Kuhr, Executive Director at IRC in Charlottesville and Richmond; and Erin McKenney, Executive Director at Just Neighbors, as well as national and global perspectives from HIAS experts and organizers.
