Pursuing Asylum Defensively: Preparing for your Individual Hearing Part II.

HIAS and Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) are once again partnering to offer a webinar training, Pursuing Asylum Defensively: Preparing for your Individual Hearing Part II. This training will focus on your appearance at your client’s individual hearing, and will cover trial advocacy, witness preparation, and what to expect when you are before the Immigration Judge. Webinar information will be circulated to registered attendees a week before the training. A recorded version of this training will be available at a later date.

Pursuing Asylum Defensively: Preparing for your Individual Hearing Part I

HIAS and Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) are partnering to offer a training for pro bono attorneys who are representing forcibly separated families seeking asylum in the United States. This training will focus on preparing for your client’s individual hearing, and will cover motion practice in immigration court, best practices for drafting briefs, affidavits, and other supporting documents, and country conditions research.

Employment Authorizations and Adjusting Status for Asylees, Refugees, and Special Immigrant Juveniles

Immigrants seeking asylum and other humanitarian protection are often eligible for additional benefits, including work authorization. Furthermore, after obtaining legal status, asylees and others may become eligible to adjust status and become Lawful Permanent Residents (green card holders). HIAS clients with pending or approved asylum applications or other visa petitions need assistance preparing these vital forms. This training will provide an overview of applying for employment authorization and adjustment of status, including preparing the paperwork, collecting additional evidence, iden

Representing Asylum Seekers

HIAS is excited to be offering a CLE training, "Representing Asylum Seekers" in partnership with Kids in Need of Defense (KIND).  Pro bono attorneys will learn how to represent families who were forcibly separated and are now seeking asylum in the United States.  We will provide an overview of asylum law including the affirmative and defensive procedures, discuss best practices for Individual Hearings and other EOIR appearances, review tips for evidence collection and submission, and provide an update on recent legal challenges.
