The 'Welcome to Paradise' Series: Mandana Dayani and Debra Messing

Join HIAS and the Holocaust Museum LA for the "Welcome to Paradise: Refugees at Home in LA" program series. Hear the inspiring stories of refugees who we welcomed to America and now give so much back to our country and, especially, the City of Angels.

In this video, we feature Mandana Dayani, who left Iran in 1987 with her family. With HIAS’ support, they were granted asylum to come to the United States. Now a longtime Los Angeles resident, Dayani has worked as a corporate attorney, talent agent, and producer of hit shows like The Rachel Zoe Project. She later co-founded I am a voter, a nonpartisan movement that aims to create a cultural shift around voting and civic engagement.

Dayani is also the co-host of The Dissenters podcast with actress and activist Debra Messing. Both women joined us to discuss why we must continue the fight to welcome the stranger and build a more inclusive America for all.
