HIAS in Europe
Director: Ilan Cohn
Office Location: Brussels
HIAS opened an office in the European Union capital in September, 2019. In many ways, the launch of HIAS Europe is in fact a return for HIAS. During World War II, HIAS was active across Europe and was instrumental in helping thousands of Jews escape persecution and in evacuating the displaced persons camps after the war.
LIAISON WITH THE EUROPEAN UNION
The office raises awareness and support for HIAS’ international humanitarian operations in the European Commission and with European governments and provides a Jewish perspective to European policymaking on refugees and asylum seekers.
ENGAGING JEWISH COMMUNITIES
Many European Jews themselves are refugees or the descendants of refugees and identify with the plight of today’s refugees and asylum seekers. HIAS Europe supports the efforts of Jewish communities across Europe in their efforts to protect refugees around the world and to welcome and integrate newly arrived refugees in Europe.
HIAS’ services are free. If someone tries to charge you for services claiming they represent HIAS, please report it at our confidential email address: email@example.com. HIAS has a zero-tolerance policy on fraud and corruption.
